STORY: In the Mexican state of Jalisco, Hurricane Jova caused high waves that damaged some seafront properties in the town of Barra de Navidad as it headed for Mexico's Pacific coast.
As palm trees swayed in the wind, the area was cordoned off by civil protection authorities to prevent accidents.
Most businesses have been closed in Barra de Navidad.
Downgraded to a Category 2 storm, with top winds reaching 100 miles per hour (160 kph), Jova was about 85 miles (140 km) southwest of the port city of Manzanillo at 1630 EDT (2030 GMT), the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The Miami-based hurricane center said Jova would slam into the Mexican coast on Tuesday night, to the northwest of Manzanillo on a stretch of coast dotted with beaches south of Puerto Vallarta.
