Israel tried to coordinate its military offensive on Gaza-ruled Hamas with Egypt and the Fatah government, according to US diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks. The information on the December 2008 Gaza operation was revealed by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, in a June 2009 telegram. The telegram offers both Egypt and Fatah to receive control over Gaza once Israel defeated Hamas. Barak is stated that he was not surprised to hear a negative answer from them both. At the same time, Barak claimed in front of US officials that the Palestinian national authority is not strong enough to have full legitimacy and complete law enforcement over the Gaza strip. As a response to this information, a top Abbas aide stated that there were never any actual consultations between them and the Israelis before the war.
