Rear Admiral Ram Rutberg has been appointed the new commander in chief of Israel's Navy. A ceremony took place at the Rabin Base in Tel Aviv last week in the presence of Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, members of the army's General Staff and families. Rutberg replaced Vice Admiral Eliezer Marom who wound up his four year tenure as the navy's top commander and 38 years of military service. Barak thanked Marom for his years of service saying under his command the Navy has pushed the boundaries of its operational skills. Rutberg thanked Barak and Gantz for trusting him with the new command and saying he accepts his new role with a sense of responsibility and great respect.
