A highway accident killed at least 24 people in eastern China's Anhui Province on Thursday (April 12), Chinese state media CCTV reported.
CCTV said the collision between a sand hauling truck and a bus occurred at approximately 06:30 a.m. local time near Wangzhai township in Suzhou City.
Three people were rescued alive from the wreckage, but one died in the hospital a few hours later, bringing the death toll to 24, state media Xinhua reported.
Rescue efforts ended at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time, police said.
CCTV said traffic accidents in China result in about 70,000 deaths and 300,000 injuries every year.
