Mexico drug shootout kills five

The aftermath of a shootout between military and alleged gang members in northern Mexico.

At least five people were killed as officers and gunmen traded fire on Friday.

Some of the suspected gang members escaped on foot, leaving behind a vehicle that burst into flames.

Also on Friday, officials announced they had captured supposed cartel hitman Jesus Hernandez Rodriguez.

Known as "El Chilango", he's suspected of several murders.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) MEXICAN NAVY SPOKESMAN, JOSE LUIS VERGARA, SAYING:

"'El Chilango' is also presumably linked to at least seven other homicides and three other ongoing investigations. We seized from the suspect two weapons, one gun and 250 ammunition of different calibre, in addition to what were presumed to be drugs in his possession, communications equipment, video and photographs, among other

belongings."

Rodriguez is also linked to the kidnapping and killing of four marines in April.
