Diversion is a way of diverting the case off of a trial calendar. Almost
every state in the Union now has a diversion for first-time offenders on
misdemeanor cases. It's just what it sounds like. It's diverting the case
off of a track so that - let's say that you have a drug problem - well, if
you participate in a drug court or drug program the case will get
dismissed.
