Tramp — Put A Record On 1974 (UK, Blues Rock)

Five years later, Spark Records offered Hall and Brunning the chance to record another album under the Tramp banner. They immediately agreed and began recruiting musicians. Surprisingly, despite all the ups and downs that had occurred in the five years since the recording of their debut album, especially within Fleetwood Mac, the original Tramp lineup was reassembled, complete with saxophonist Dave Brooks from Manfred Mann and percussionist Ian Morton. The album, titled Put A Record On, was recorded on January 9th and 10th, 1974, at Denmark Street Studios and released later that year. The album featured a wide variety of compositions, ranging from pastiches of pre-war archaism to funk. Blues was present, but clearly not the dominant element. The album was built around the interplay of piano and saxophone. The guitar played a less prominent role. The result was a rather engaging live recording, with each member of the project able to fully showcase their musical abilities. This lineup continued until March 1974, even playing several concerts in support of the album.
