euronews.com� reported that Malaysia is seeking €216 million ($251 million) in compensation from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace after a missile deal was canceled.
The dispute began when Norway revoked export licenses for the Naval Strike Missile system that Malaysia had ordered for its naval warships. The agreement was originally signed in 2018, and Malaysia says it had already paid about 95% of the contract value.
According to Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the compensation claim includes not only the money already paid, but also extra costs linked to removing installed systems and finding replacement missile systems for the ships.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim criticized Norway’s decision as “unilateral and unacceptable,” saying it could affect Malaysia’s defense readiness. Norway, however, defended the move by saying its updated export policy limits advanced defense technology sales to close allied nations only.
