Metamorphosis – Dynamic Arena 1972 (USA, Psychedelic-Jazz Rock)
Symphonic Metamorphosis was an exciting nine-piece horn rock band, formed by (then) active members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The horns are superbly performed and the band rocks quite hard, especially considering the year 1972, a very transitional year for America. The vocal harmonies have a 60s vibe. Unique in their own way. Very good psychedelic/prog album in London. Eight members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra make up the band... haha, even the Detroit classical musicians played hard! You'll find a lot of garagy keyboards, hard fuzz guitar as well as jazz horns that stand out and soulful songs on this record. On the album cover they call themselves "fusion rock", but I wouldn't compare them to Mahavishnu Orchestra or Santana... Symphonic Metamorhosis is more in the style of The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble and Ten Wheel Drive or maybe all the blues-psych bands from Chicago. This album is quite interesting to listen to, I recommend it.
The band's second and final album.
