The United States White House and military said the Strait of Hormuz remains open to traffic despite Iran's announcement that it was closed, and they are guiding commercial vessels carrying millions of barrels of oil transiting the strait quietly out of the area.
US President Donald Trump said this had stabilised oil prices and international markets.
