The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alongside the Food and Drug Administration, is probing a multi-state outbreak of Cyclosporiasis, which has seen 145 confirmed cases across 17 states in the US from May 1 to June 6, 2026. Despite extensive investigations, no specific food or water source has been identified. This outbreak, attributed to the intestinal parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, is transmitted through contaminated food or water and has impacted individuals aged 5 to 86, with Florida and Georgia being among the affected states. Additionally, 45 cases are associated with international travel. Cyclospora infection leads to severe and prolonged gastrointestinal symptoms. Officials from the CDC caution that the outbreak is ongoing, and without a known source, the public faces challenges in prevention.
