On August 4, Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) at an altitude of around 30,000 feet. The aircraft reportedly dropped nearly 300 feet within seconds, triggering panic inside the cabin. Passengers who were not wearing seat belts were thrown into the air, with several striking the cabin ceiling and seats, resulting in serious injuries. A total of 17 people, including passengers and crew members, were injured. The pilots quickly regained control and landed the aircraft safely at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. According to aviation experts, Clear Air Turbulence is especially dangerous because it develops in clear skies and cannot be detected in advance by conventional weather radar. Scientists have also warned that such turbulence is becoming more frequent due to global warming, making it increasingly important for passengers to keep their seat belts fastened throughout the flight.
