A decade after the Silicate War, traumatized soldier Jun-9 walks backwards across a futuristic Korea to reclaim the lost taste of kimchi, gathering salt, ghost-pepper, and undead shrimp along the way as his PTSD flashbacks blend with the ingredients. He’s joined by a shadowless cook, a skinless priest, a guilt-ridden general, and a mute child, each adding their trauma to the pilgrimage, until they reach the DMZ’s spinal forest and unearth a living recipe written in bone. They bury and ferment their collected grief into kimchi, and with the first bite Jun-9 finally silences the war in his head—only to hear his own screaming voice rise from the jar as he takes his first step forward.
