Adrien, a devil sent to damn blind river girl Cecilia by tempting her with the seven deadly sins, falls in love as each failed temptation strips his memories and makes him human — pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth are all defeated by her humility, generosity, chastity, gratitude, temperance, patience, and diligence, until he forgets Hell entirely and they become engaged. When Cecilia falls fatally ill on their wedding day, Adrien’s devil father Lucio offers a cruel choice: return to Hell and she’ll live but forget him, or stay and watch her die; refusing, Adrien journeys to a Shipibo village in the Peruvian Amazon where a shaman’s ayahuasca ritual forces him to relive every evil he caused and purges him pure enough to retrieve the Fountain of Youth’s healing elixir. He races back to Iquitos only for Lucio to trip him on holy ground, shattering the bottle — but the light still cures Cecilia as Adrien is erased from existence. Now formless, he returns nightly to her stilt house as a warm light that reads her stories, and though she remembers nothing of him, she smiles in her sleep and whispers “thank you, diabinho charmoso”, blind but able to see the love that still keeps her company.
